Prayers following communion
1. Prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas After Communion
Lord, Father all-powerful and ever-living God, I thank You, for even though I am a sinner, your unprofitable servant, not because of my worth but in the kindness of your mercy, You have fed me with the Precious Body & Blood of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray that this Holy Communion may not bring me condemnation and punishment but forgiveness and salvation.
May it be a helmet of faith and a shield of good will. May it purify me from evil ways and put an end to my evil passions. May it bring me charity and patience, humility and obedience, and growth in the power to do good. May it be my strong defense against all my enemies, visible and invisible, and the perfect calming of all my evil impulses, bodily and spiritual. May it unite me more closely to you, the One true God, and lead me safely through death to everlasting happiness with You.
And I pray that You will lead me, a sinner, to the banquet where you, with Your Son and holy Spirit, are true and perfect light, total fulfillment, everlasting joy, gladness without end, and perfect happiness to your saints. grant this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
2. Anima Christi by St. Ignatius of Loyola
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds hide me.
Separated from Thee let me never be.
From the malignant enemy, defend me.
At the hour of death, call me.
And close to Thee bid me.
That with Thy saints I may be Praising Thee, forever and ever.
Amen.
3. Prayer to Jesus Crucified after Communion
Most loving Jesus, humbly kneeling before You, still remaining in spirit before Your Eucharistic Presence, I adore You profoundly.
I thank You for having united me with You in Holy Communion, and for allowing me the incomparable sublime privilege of being able to speak to you in heart to heart conversation.
United to the Immaculate Heart of Your holy Mother, and under her motherly gaze, I offer You, my sweetest Jesus, the homage of my adoration, thankful praise for Your loving condescension in coming to me, and reparation for my unfaithfulness, my lack of correspondence, my tepidity, negligence, faults, and deliberate sins.
Heart of Jesus, Whose Blood has cleansed me, purify me still more; Heart of Jesus, Whose Blood has cleansed me, purify me still more; Heart of Jesus, Whose Flesh has nourished me, transform me completely into Yourself; Heart of Jesus, Vessel and Temple of the Holy Spirit, impress upon my poor heart all the virtues found in Your own Heart.
Make my heart like unto Yours! And set my heart afire with that pure flame of love which ever burns in Your own Heart.
Jesus, dwell ever in my heart! Keep me faithful to You till death. Grant that I may love You ardently, and serve You perfectly, for time and all eternity.
Amen.
